Probably the best product of my experimentations with shading over the years. She's of course undergone some changes since this problem, but I haven't really gotten any of the revisions to work as well as this did... Now, on to backgrounds... and shading like this more often... and shading more often period.
Cheshire, one half of a pair of robot assassins, equipped with a Variable Weapons System installed in her arm-pods enabling her to switch out and use various weapons including, but not limited to, an automatic railgun, machine guns, mini-missiles, and a super-heated plasma laser.
Bla, bla blaaa, bla bla. Mine, don't use her, or her design, etc.
Wow, buffishness. o.o; Wouldn't wanna get on her bad side. ^^; Wasn't cheshire the cat from Through the Looking Glass? O.o; Awesome piece. I love the shading. Reminds me of a Ktarl Ktarl. Keep it up.
Wow..that's a really nice character design, I think I can safely say that you executed it very well ^.^ This is beautiful--you've made the character look very strong and confident, yet thoughtful and emotional, a quality that sometimes gets skipped in action characters like this. I'm digging her outfit (or lack thereof --Tom) and her muscular structure isn't overintrusive where it needs to be subtle (like on her belly and abdomen) yet very apparent where it should be (the outlines and general figure). The shading, like you pointed out, is extremely well done as well, somewhat cel-like but also gradiated, and looks nice almost everywhere, although I'd reccomend a little more on that one blankish section of her nifty arm device things.
One thing I might suggest is that her hair in some spots seems a tad strange or flat, which can easily be corrected through some experimentation or shading, and her breastplate covering thing, while intriguing looking, seems to be just a bit lacking in...substance, it could use some more intricacies, perhaps curves at some point, to make it really look good on her. But i'm nitpicking. Very original and cool looking character--in fact, I'm so impressed i'm going to check out your archive, you look like you have a lot of talent I strongly reccomend that, if you're able, you finish this off and, perhaps, even colour her, because she certainly deserves it! Great work.
Wow, that's some very spiff pencil work. I echo many of senorphrog's sentiments.
Also I seem to notice you had some problems with the left arm/gauntlet. Other than general cleaning (If you have photoshop it's pretty easy, just use the eyedropper on the paper color, select paintbrush, set the opacity to 100% and then run the brush over eraser marks.)
I think a little bit of shading along the gauntlet piece next to the body would bring it out a bit more. The left arm muscle could be curved slightly to make it like it slides more into it, rather than right now it looks a little messy. With the general muscle structure it seems you can draw that quite well, maybe adding small bits of muscle around her legs or some folds if that's a body suit.
One general note, and isn't too much applied to this pic specfically. Shading darkly or boldly isn't a big problem. It just provides more contrast. Some good work though.

Now that is one tough lady. Great character, and I love that outfit - I'd love to see this either shaded a bit more, or colored, so it's a little more obvious what's going on with her clothes, though. I'm assuming that her bottom half is covered in skin-tight material, but because it's all the same shade, it's difficult to tell.
You've done a really nice job with the anatomy here, especially on her torso and arms. The only little parts that are bugging me are her neck (it's a smidge too long) and her left leg (viewer's right) - it's bent at a strange angle; just nudging it in a little bit beneath the knee so that it's in a straighter line would help.
oooooooh.... if i got into a fight, i'd definitely want her backing me up. great work on her. i look forward to seeing more sketches of this character..
